What counselling can help with

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety or overwhelm, struggling with self-doubt, people-pleasing or boundaries, recovering from trauma or the impact of past experiences, noticing patterns that keep repeating, or finding your way through a period of change in your life.

You don’t need to fit neatly into a particular category. Sometimes you may simply know that something doesn’t feel right, or that you would like things to feel different.

What once felt confusing can begin to make sense

Sometimes we find ourselves reacting in ways we don’t fully understand, experiencing strong feelings, or repeating patterns even when part of us knows we’d like things to be different.

Counselling can help us become curious about what’s happening rather than judging ourselves for it. As we begin to understand where our feelings, responses and patterns may have come from – and why they might have made sense at the time – they can start to feel less confusing.

That understanding can create space for something different. Rather than automatically responding in the ways you always have, you may begin to notice that you have choices about what you need and how you want to respond.

What counselling with me is like

I work integratively, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on you, what you bring and what we begin to understand together.

We might talk and reflect, notice thoughts or patterns, explore feelings and what you experience in your body, or become curious about different parts of yourself. Sometimes I use creative resources such as cards or images, particularly when something feels difficult to put into words. EFT Tapping can also be brought into our work when it feels appropriate.

The theory works around you.

You don’t need to fit a particular approach or know what kind of therapy you need. What I come to understand about you helps guide the way we work together.

You don’t need to have the right words

If something feels difficult to put into words, we don’t always have to rely on them.

We can begin with a feeling, a sensation in your body, an image, or simply “I don’t know.”

You don’t need to have the right words. We can start with what is there and find our way together.

Counselling or EFT?

You don’t need to decide which approach is right for you before getting in touch. EFT Tapping can be used as a therapy in its own right or, where appropriate, brought into our counselling work.

We can talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you hope for, and decide together what feels like the best place to begin.
