A space to think deeply about your work
For me, the relationship is at the heart of good supervision. I want us to develop a relationship where you feel able to bring all of your work, including the moments when you’re uncertain, finding something difficult or feeling personally affected by a client.
My hope is that supervision becomes somewhere you can be yourself as a practitioner: somewhere you can think out loud, question your assumptions and explore things that might sometimes feel difficult to admit.
Together, we can step back from the work, consider different perspectives and reflect on what you, your client and the therapeutic relationship might need.
Support and challenge can sit together
Good supervision isn’t simply about reassurance or agreement. As trust develops, there is room for gentle challenge, questioning and looking at things differently.
It’s also an important space for exploring ethical dilemmas, safeguarding, risk and professional responsibilities. These situations aren’t always clear-cut, and we may need to slow things down, consider different perspectives and return to our ethical and professional frameworks.
There may be times, particularly around safeguarding or risk, when I need to be more direct. We can still think things through together while keeping the wellbeing of clients and our professional responsibilities at the centre of our work.
We can hold support, challenge and professional responsibility in the same space.
Supervision for trainee counsellors
I particularly enjoy working with trainee counsellors as they bring together theory, placement experience and their developing sense of themselves as practitioners.
Training can sometimes bring pressure to get things right or feel that you should know more than you do. Supervision offers somewhere to bring your uncertainties, questions and experiences.
I see my role as supporting you to discover the kind of counsellor you are and develop your own therapeutic philosophy, while paying attention to your training and placement requirements, developing competence and professional responsibilities.
Working with me
I offer supervision to qualified and trainee counsellors, face-to-face in Tavistock and online.
Sessions start from 45 minutes, with the length and frequency tailored to your workload, professional requirements and individual needs.
My supervision fee is £60 per hour, pro rata, with concessionary rates available for trainee counsellors.
I hold a CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision and am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
Thinking about supervision?
If you’re looking for a supervisor, you’re welcome to arrange a free discovery call. We can talk about what you’re looking for, any professional or placement requirements you need to meet, and whether we feel we could work well together.
There’s no expectation that you make a decision on the call.
