Hello, I’m Lori

I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor, EFT Advanced Practitioner and counselling supervisor based in Tavistock, Devon, working both face-to-face and online.

I know that choosing a therapist can feel very personal. Qualifications and experience matter, but so does finding someone you feel comfortable talking to – someone you feel able to be yourself with.

I bring warmth, curiosity and humanity to my work. I’m comfortable sitting alongside difficult feelings and experiences, including things that may feel hard to talk about or difficult to share. I also believe there can be room for humour, honesty and, as our relationship develops, gentle challenge.

You don’t need to present a particular version of yourself when you come to see me. You can arrive as you are, and we can begin from there.

What matters to me

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: we all matter.

Many of us become very good at adapting to what is happening around us. We learn ways of coping, relating and responding that may have made sense at different times in our lives. Sometimes, though, we can become disconnected from our own feelings, needs or sense of who we are along the way.

I believe that understanding ourselves with greater compassion can begin to change that. As we make sense of our experiences and the ways we have learned to respond, we can begin to see ourselves differently – and have more choice about what we want to carry forward.

My role isn’t to tell you who you should be or what you should do. I see myself as working alongside you, bringing my experience and therapeutic knowledge while recognising that you are the person who knows what it is like to be you.

For me, therapy is ultimately about helping you reconnect with yourself – your feelings, your needs, your own voice and perhaps those quieter parts of you that have been difficult to hear.

When you begin to see, feel and experience yourself differently, everything else can begin to change.

Experience and professional training

My counselling experience has included working in GP surgeries, further education colleges, secondary and primary schools, and private practice, giving me experience of working with people of different ages, backgrounds and stages of life.

I have also worked as a counselling tutor in a private college, teaching CPCAB Level 2 and Level 3 counselling courses, and trained as a Thrive Practitioner while working within primary education. These experiences have contributed to my understanding of both therapeutic practice and the development of counsellors as they progress through their training.

I’m an experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor, counselling supervisor and EFT Advanced Practitioner. I’ve continued to develop my practice through further training and professional development, allowing me to draw on a range of approaches and work flexibly with each person.
